My Tools

Pictured are just a few of the "Tools" I use,  lights, camera, microphones and most importantly the edit bay.  This was one of the hardest photo shoots that I have ever tried to accomplish, I snapped the shutter and reviewed the image and then had to move the mic stand an inch this way and the light stand a inch that way.  It was a long process of getting everything right and along the way I learned a bit more on how to use some of my photography "Tools".

This weeks assignment

This week is going to be an interesting one.  I had the chance to reach into the hat and pull out the topic, I shook the hat with vigor, reached my hand way to the bottom and pulled the piece of paper.  I couldn't dare to look so I showed it to Erica, she studied it and said "I think it says tools".  When see said that I knew I had written that one, (her penmanship is much better then mine).  So this week we are taking pictures of TOOLS, we have talked about some ideas we had and on this we have differed widely.  Check back later this week to see what we post.

Love Through the Ages

Our topic this week was love.  On Sunday, when we drew our next topic and I found out it was love, the first thought that went through my mind was Opa and Oma.  My grandparents have been married for a very long time, and I feel that they are a wonderful testament to what love truly is.  And on top of that, for those of you who may not know, my Opa is fighting a battle against cancer.  We don't know what the future holds, but we do know who holds the future.  Something I believe Opa lives by everyday.  I wanted some photos that captured Opa and Oma as the grandparents I look up to and will remember long after they have gone to their Heavenly home.  During our "photoshoot", I learned why we don't have a lot of photos with Opa...he's like a little kid.  Constantly being goofy, laughing, not looking at the camera, not wanting to stay in one spot.  So after many laughs, and "Ooopaa!" (from both Oma and myself), this is what I've come up with.  I love you Opa and Oma and am thankful that God has blessed me with you both. This is what LOVE is to me.

His Favorite Oldest Grand Daughter

Pictured is Erica (the other half of this blog) and her Opa.  For those who aren't familiar with West Michigan or the Dutch,  Opa roughly translates to grandpa.  We spent an evening visiting with Opa and Oma and took our cameras along.  We enjoyed a nice dinner and some time socializing with them, I enjoy listening to their stories and watching them interact with eachother.  I had an idea in my head about what I wanted to shoot, but that didn't work out, so out of all the images I shot, I picked this one to share.  I believe it captures the two of them and the LOVE they have for eachother, never too serious, and always having fun and laughing.

Week Number Two

Last night, as Adam, Blodge, Grit and I were hanging out watching the superbowl, Adam remembered we had not picked out second topic.  Blodge was a bit confused because he had not seen our blog yet.  So we explained to him what we were doing.  As a way of "welcome", Adam decided it would be a good idea to allow Blodge to pick our next topic.  Adam ran upstairs, grabbed our fluorescent "cat-in-the-hat" hat and handed it to Blodge.  We shook the hat, and shook it some more, and just for good measure, we shook it again.  He reaches in, grabs a piece of paper and goes to read the topic, but WAIT!  He grabbed 2!  Luckily he had not looked at either of the topics and therefore randomly selected one to put back in the hat.  The moment has arrived!  Drum-roll please! He opens the piece of paper, and our topic is....
LOVE

I'm sure the majority of you can about guess what Adam's response was...again...he was not happy.  Come to find out, the problem he needs to move on from is that he has ideas for some of the topics he put into the hat.  But alas, those topics have not come up yet.  I believe though, once he calmed down and got whatever it is out of his system, he started warming up to our next topic.

With this we start our 2nd week of our photo journey.  We can't wait to show you our interpretations of love in a photo.  Stay tuned!

Individual Fashion

Fashion to me means an individual style, and my friend Mo has just that, and individual style all his own.  Mo commonly wears multiple watches, I don't know why, he just does.  So when it was time to think of a "fashion" photo Mo came to mind.  I asked if he was interested in helping and he said "Oh Yeah".  Mo was a fun model, he showed up with all his watches, a change of clothes and even a CD of music to help set the mood.  We braved the weather on Wednesday night and took some "fashion" photos.

BE Fashion

For those who know me, you know that I love clothes, accessories and anything fashion.  So the fact that our first assignment for this 52 week photo blog was fashion was very exciting to me.  What is fashion to you?  To me, it's BIG, BOLD and BEAUTIFUL!  Take a cute shirt, a fun bag, big jewelry, and sometimes an amazing hat; what do you have, FASHION! I went to Myrtle Mae's on the East Beltline and M-6 with Teresa and put together some very fun outfits.  Here is my final product!  I love the way these turned out and fell in love with this store all over again.  But the good news is...I resisted the temptation to purchase the cute blue bag, or the big chunky necklace and even that really cute ring...a feet accomplished in and of itself.  Fashion, it's a beautiful thing.
